GENEALOGY
AND FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH
SERVICES
On-line
& Physical Archive searching
The service I
provide includes
searching on-line
the English and Welsh Census
1841 to 1901 and the General Register Office indexes of births,
marriages and death certificates.
In addition to these, there
is the wealth of documentation held by the Bristol Record Office,
Probate Office, Central Library and other organisations located in the
city and the surrounding area. Sources such as church records,
electoral registers, trade directories, newspapers, cemetery indexes,
and much more.
I live right in the centre of
Bristol.
so if your family lived here, I am perfectly placed to carry out
investigations for you. I can also take photographs
for you.
If you
are looking for a specific document and it exists, I will try to find
it for you.
I know myself what it's like
to be remote from the area where your ancestors lived.
My own family research was
based in the North East, but I lived in the Midlands. I would
spend one week a year in the area cramming, writing down as much as I
could, taking loads of photographs, then spending hours back home going
through pages and pages of hastily scribbled data. Only to find
that I had completely missed analysing a connection due to time
constraints, and have to wait another year before I could continue that
line of research!
Software
Library & Tools at my disposal
I
use the following software tools in carrying out research and preparing
reports and creating lasting quality reports and charts. All
software is fully licensed!:
 | Family
Tree Maker v 2006 - My main database for entering and recording family
tree members, their stories, photographs and also any data that you
provide me with. I can also export from this package to create
GEDCOM files, the international electronic transfer standard between
software packages. |
 |
Rootsmagic
- Family Tree Maker is the best genealogist's software, but it does
not create the best 'output' for me to share with my Clients. I
use Rootsmagic as well, since it allows me to provide clients with CDs
of my research, with executable software allowing them to be run on
your PC! In effect, I give you a 'read only' version of the
Rootsmagic software with your research data. I will of course
give you the GEDCOM files also. |
 |
Serif
Pageplus X2 & Drawplus 6.0 - I use this as my main desktop
publishing software to give you quality reports and documents when the
research is completed. This is much better than using something
like Word and is great for giving research projects as a present. |
 | Adobe
Photoshop - to view photographs. |
